‘Sleepless Nights, Complicated Days’ (80x100x4cm) mixed media on canvas, March-April 2020

Selected for The Confinement Chronicle on instagram.

This painting is part of my series of ‘Domestopias’ paintings. It was planned before the lockdown and finishing it during this extended ‘Stay at home’ period, it resonates with all of us – not just carers with young children but those for whom enforced domesticity is exhausting, delightsome – complicated.

‘Domestopias’ are funny and menacing, monstrous and mundane. Unusually depicting domestic settings they show the ambivalence and contradiction of carers’s lives so that we can see, understand and change our attitudes towards the value of care in society.
