Natural Remedy is a slow project that has enabled me to spend time learning about the medicinal properties of wild flowers and weeds. On local walks I have been collecting one small sample of – everything – discovering that everything has some application for human health (only one plant so far had no medicinal properties). Discovering more about the natural world around us and our connection to it, it is natural to want to find ways to share this knowledge.
From each plant I took a ‘snapshot’ – a print on cotton and so far have collected more than 60 samples and prints. Originally I imagined covering what you might call a ‘recovery’ chair but work in progress shows a quilt with information pockets, so that information about each plant can be easily accessed. Quilts are comforting and form part of a comforting rest regime for those that are recuperating during and after illness. There is still scope to cover the chair too, and create a larger installation, so I’m excited to see what happens.
