‘Cartographies of care’ mixed media on canvas, 10x120x4cm, 2020 is one artwork selected for an eclectic show by Newlyn Society of Artists that examines memory in all its forms now on at Tremenheere Gallery, Cornwall. A basic tenet of our lives, artists constantly examine how memory informs and gives shape to our lives.
In paintings that examine history and selfhood, memory is core to my practice and in this painting made during lockdowns in 2020 I give shape to and chaotically map the lives of those who are caught up with caring for others. These are all of us, these figures give voice and representation to invisible, under-represented and often forgotten daily acts.
The exhibition is open daily (except Mondays) until 1st May and features contemporary art and sculpture from Cornish artists.
